Church Cottage
The Vision
Mr Smith wanted the approach to his new garage and buildings to feel welcoming, refined and easy to maintain—something that complemented the property while adding everyday practicality. He was particularly drawn to soft, sweeping lines and a crisp, modern finish.
Our brief was to extend the driveway, introduce elegant curves to guide vehicles and visitors, and craft a standout entrance with lighting, signage and gates.

The Challenge
The existing frontage had several competing levels and straight edges that didn’t flatter the plot. We needed to re-shape the area so vehicles could manoeuvre comfortably, manage surface water cleanly, and tie new works into the garage threshold and surrounding buildings—without the space feeling hard or boxy.
The Process & Build
1. Driveway Extension & Curved Kerb Lines
We set out a series of gentle arcs and installed charcoal high kerbs to define the geometry. These kerbs create a strong visual edge and protect the driveway margins from vehicle overrun. The surface was dressed with 10 mm natural gravel for a timeless look and satisfying crunch underfoot, with the curves naturally guiding vehicles in and out.

2. Granite-Effect Block-Paving Path
To link the frontage with the buildings, we laid a granite-effect block-paving path. The texture and tone offer a subtle contrast to the gravel, creating a neat pedestrian route that stays clean, flat and durable in all seasons.

3. K-Rendered Entrance Walls, Copings & Signage
We built curved masonry walls and finished them in K-render for a smooth, contemporary aesthetic. The walls were capped with rustic coping stones to shed water and add tactile detail. A built-in house sign provides a smart, permanent marker that’s easy to read from the approach.

4. Integrated Lighting & Gates
Discreet wall lights were set into the rendered walls to illuminate the pathway and accentuate the curves after dark. Finally, we fitted new gates, aligning them precisely with the kerb lines and walls so the whole entrance reads as one cohesive design.

The Result
The new frontage feels generous, flowing and unmistakably bespoke. The charcoal kerbs and curved K-rendered walls frame the space beautifully, while the gravel driveway and granite-effect path balance elegance with practicality. Day or night, the integrated lighting picks out the lines and textures, making arrival feel special.
"Jamie’s input into the design element of this project proved invaluable, and the proposed curves have become an important feature of the end result. With great attention to detail and an excellent team, the work was carried out to an exceptionally high standard."
Final Thoughts
This project shows how thoughtful geometry and material choices can transform a straightforward driveway extension into a signature entrance. The interplay of curves, clean render, warm copings and subtle lighting delivers both everyday function and lasting kerb appeal.
